Early Life and Education
Jamaal Anthony Bowman was born on April 1, 1976, in New York City. He earned a bachelor's degree in education from Pace University and a master's degree in school leadership from City College of New York.
Political Career
Bowman began his political career as a middle school principal in the Bronx. In 2018, he ran for Congress and defeated incumbent Eliot Engel in a Democratic primary. He was subsequently elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2019.
As a member of Congress, Bowman has served on the House Committee on Education and Labor, the House Committee on the Judiciary, and the Select Committee on the January 6 Attack.
Current Campaign
In 2022, Bowman is running for a third term in Congress. He is facing challenges from three other Democratic candidates in the primary.
Bowman is a progressive Democrat who supports policies such as Medicare for All, the Green New Deal, and criminal justice reform. He has also been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump.
